Police have blocked major routes into Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) today, sealing off key entry points as security agencies respond to planned protests marking the June 25 anniversary.

Officers mounted barricades along Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, and near Athi River and Mlolongo, turning back matatus and private vehicles while intensifying screening operations on major highways leading into the city.

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior said the deployment aims to maintain public safety, protect property and critical infrastructure, and ensure lawful activities continue with minimal disruption.

Authorities expect large crowds in Nairobi as demonstrators mobilise nationwide to commemorate last year’s anti-government protests.
