Thousands of Residents Affected as Nairobi Water Announces Disruptions in 17 Estates

Nairobi Water has announced widespread water supply interruptions across several estates following a major pipeline leakage that forced an emergency shutdown of a key distribution line.
In a notice dated Friday, June 26, 2026, Nairobi Water confirmed the interruption affects both residential and commercial areas across the city.
“We wish to notify our customers of a temporary water supply interruption affecting several residential and commercial areas within Nairobi City County,” the notice stated.
Meanwhile, the disruption stems from a major leakage detected on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai, near Kirigiti in Kiambu County, a critical supply line serving Nairobi.
To address the situation, the utility company shut down the Kigoro–Gigiri pipeline to allow urgent repair works, a move that has significantly reduced water flow to multiple neighbourhoods.
“To enable urgent repair works, the Kigoro–Gigiri pipeline has been temporarily shut down and water supply is expected to resume progressively as soon as the repairs are completed,” the notice added.

Consequently, several areas will experience low pressure or complete water outages, including Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Upperhill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Lang’ata, Karen, Uthiru, Kawangware, Kangemi, Kibera, Ruai, Ngundu, and Kamulu.
In addition, bulk supply zones such as MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company will also feel the impact.
Furthermore, the notice warns that the disruption may persist until repair works are complete, prompting residents and businesses to take early precautionary measures.

Residents Urged to Prepare as Repairs Continue
As a result, Nairobi Water has advised customers in the affected areas to store sufficient water for domestic and commercial use ahead of the restoration timeline.
The company has also encouraged the public to reach out through its customer care channels for updates and assistance.
Ultimately, the interruption highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining aging water infrastructure even as demand for reliable water supply continues to grow across Nairobi.
