CS Ogamba Announces Fresh Leadership Changes in Universities and Polytechnics

CS Ogamba Appoints New Chairpersons and Members to University Council

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced several leadership changes in universities and national polytechnics through a gazette notice dated Friday, June 26, 2026.

The changes include both fresh appointments and reappointments to the councils of various institutions. According to the gazette notice, all the appointments will run for a period of three years, effective June 26, 2026.

Several University Council Members Reappointed by CS Ogamba

Among those reappointed are members serving in the councils of several public universities across the country.

At Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, David Morang’a Oyugi, Joan Atieno Odawa, Ambassador Ambeyi Ligavo, Isaac Kiprop Chebon, and Dr. Willis Gesami Omwoyo were reappointed as council members.

At South Eastern Kenya University, Esther Wanjiru was reappointed as a member of the university council.

Maasai Mara University also saw the reappointment of Dr. Susan Chebet, Elizabeth Ayoo, Dickson Malanga Shikanga, and Agnes Busienei as council members.

At Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Joel Yego and Velma Mudanyi Mudasa were reappointed as members.

The CS further reappointed Prof. Mohamed Salim Badamana as the Non-Executive Chairperson of Pwani University Council. Other members reappointed to the council are Ambassador Benjamin Mweri, Sang Kiptanui David, Fatma Mohammed, and Japhet Mvoyi Ria.

At Kisii University, Dr. Sara Ruto was reappointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson, while Samson Muchelule retained his position as a council member.

Turkana University also retained Dr. Peter Salim Ndemo as the Non-Executive Chairperson. Jared Oyier, Shadrack Kemoi Lemuywara, Dr. Dominic Kimutai Biwott, and Carolyne Ekwom were reappointed as members.

Meanwhile, Chuka University retained Prof. David Serem as the Non-Executive Chairperson, alongside members Crispus Micheni Ndeke, Linet Kwamboka Maganda, Samuel Gacheru Gitonga, Zephania Rwanda Mbaka, and Margaret Makhungu.

In fresh appointments at Maasai Mara University, Prof. Geoffrey Ole Maloiy was appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson, while Millicent Leila Lenguris was appointed as a council member.

New Leaders Named for National Polytechnics

The Cabinet Secretary also made new appointments to the councils of several national polytechnics.

At Nairobi National Polytechnic, Charles Aondo Kimwoni was appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson. Stephen Kimaiyo Masacha, Rose Mwaura, Brenda Oliwa, and Peter Mwangi Karanja were appointed as council members.

For Taita Taveta National Polytechnic, Esther Kalunda Ndile was appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson, while Nahashon Ndaretoi Mesula, Anne Aluku, and Justin Mabati were named as members.

At Michuki National Polytechnic, Benson Ngari Kamau was appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson. Sheila M. Nyamweya, Lydia Muthoni Miano, Christine Jane Njeri Macharia, and Philiph Kiplagat Mitei were appointed as council members.

The appointments take effect from June 26, 2026, and will remain in force for three years.
