Moi University Reveals When First-Year Students Will Report Amid Lecturers’ Strike Threat
Share
Moi University has released its academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic year even as lecturers threaten to resume a strike over delayed salary arrears and unremitted statutory deductions.
The calendar, approved by the university Senate, outlines key academic activities from student reporting and registration to examinations and graduation.
The release comes just hours after officials from the University’s Academic Staff Union (UASU) warned that lecturers could down their tools if the university fails to address outstanding issues affecting staff.
First-Year Students to Report in August
According to the academic calendar, first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students will report for registration on August 20 and 21, 2026, at the Main Campus, Annex Campus, College of Health Sciences and Nairobi Campus.
Orientation for the new students is scheduled to run from August 24 to August 28, 2026.
Continuing students will begin reporting from August 27, while Semester One classes for most students will officially start on August 31, 2026.
Course registration will continue into September before teaching and continuous assessment tests begin.

Moi University Examinations and Graduation Dates
The university has scheduled Semester One examinations to run from November 30 to December 22, 2026 across all campuses.
The 49th graduation rehearsal is set for December 2, 2026, while the 49th graduation ceremony will take place on December 3, 2026, at the Graduation Pavilion on the Main Campus.
The second semester will begin on January 4, 2027, with classes starting on the same day for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Examinations for the second semester are scheduled for April 5 to April 23, 2027, while special and supplementary examinations will be held between July 19 and August 6, 2027.
Calendar Released Amid Strike Warning
The academic calendar comes as UASU intensifies pressure on Moi University management over the delayed implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Last month, the government announced the release of Ksh 3.9 billion to settle part of the outstanding salary arrears for public university employees across the country.
However, UASU says some institutions, including Moi University, have not fully passed the benefits to staff as agreed.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi, UASU Secretary-General Constantine Wasonga said lecturers are prepared to return to strike if their grievances are not addressed.
“Lecturers are now threatening to go on strike if the matter is not resolved.”
