Bees Storm School Tour, 16 Pupils Injured and Five in Serious Condition

Sixteen pupils from CITAM Woodley Primary School in Nairobi are nursing injuries after a bee attack at Kambi Samaki Junction in Baringo North during an educational trip to Lake Baringo on Friday, July 3, 2026.
The school had organised the excursion for 174 pupils, eight teachers, and five drivers to tour the lakeside area.
As the group explored the area, bees suddenly swarmed them, triggering panic among pupils and teachers who ran in different directions to escape the attack.
According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, the incident disrupted the trip and forced an emergency response.
“Bee attack at Kambi Samaki Junction, Baringo North: 174 pupils, 8 teachers and 5 drivers from CITAM Woodley Primary (Nairobi) affected during a tour to Lake Baringo,” the Kenya Red Cross said in a statement.

Bee Attack Leaves Five Pupils Seriously Injured
Following the chaos, responders confirmed that 16 learners suffered bee stings, while five sustained severe injuries that required urgent medical attention.
“16 learners stung, 5 severe. Kenya Red Cross provided first aid, medical evacuation and search & tracing support alongside National and County Government,” the agency added.
In response, Kenya Red Cross teams, working closely with national and county government officials, rushed to the scene.
They administered first aid, evacuated the injured to nearby medical facilities, and accounted for every member of the group.

Victims Stabilised After Swift Response
Despite the frightening ordeal, medical teams stabilised all affected pupils after treatment with no fatalities reported.
“All patients stable. Operation closed at 2100Hrs,” the Kenya Red Cross confirmed.
Although the attack caused fear and confusion, emergency teams quickly restored order and completed the rescue operation later that evening.
Authorities are yet to confirm what triggered the bees. However, officials may assess the area to prevent similar incidents, especially since it remains a popular destination for tourists and school trips.
