LSK Demands Justice After Lawyer Edward Muthee Kariuki Is Found Murdered

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) condemned the murder of advocate Edward Muthee Kariuki and demanded swift justice after his body was found outside his residence in Athi River on July 5, 2026.

LSK President Charles Kanjama, SC, signed an interim statement expressing “profound grief and deep concern” over the killing.

The Society said Kariuki, until his demise, practiced law as “Edward Kariuki Law Advocates with offices along Kiambu Road.”

“This heinous incident is a dark moment for the legal profession and the nation at large and casts a grim shadow on the state’s duty to protect the lives of its citizens,” LSK stated.

LSK’S Ongoing Commitment to Justice for Kariuki and Holding Perpetrators Accountable

Kariuki died just a day before the Release of the LSK statement.

LSK activated its Lawyer-Police Liaison Committee, which continues to have close contact with the family and is actively following up on the ongoing investigations with the relevant authorities.

Society promised to keep us posted as information came to light.

The Society also committed to following the case very closely and to resorting to all legal and institutional instruments available to hold the author accountable.

“The Society reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring that the truth surrounding this tragic incident is established and that those responsible are held fully accountable,” LSK declared adding “LSK will remain actively seized of this matter, closely monitor the progress of the investigations, and take all necessary legal, institutional, and advocacy measures to ensure that justice is not only done, but is manifestly seen to be done.”

LSK calls for Justice and Support for the Legal Profession

LSK called on investigating agencies to conduct “thorough, expeditious, and impartial investigations” and urged anyone with information to report it to the authorities in pursuit of justice.

Kanjama affirmed LSK’s position on the rule of law and advocate safety.

“The Society remains steadfast in its commitment to the rule of law, the protection of advocates, and the administration of justice,” he stated.

The Society extended its deepest sympathy to his bereaved family, friends, colleagues and the entire legal profession.
