Govt Seeks Public Comments on Plan to Build an Airstrip at Meru Forest Station

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has proposed the construction of an airstrip and related facilities at Kithoka Beat in Meru Forest Station.
KFS has published a public notice inviting members of the public and other stakeholders to submit written views, comments, concerns, and recommendations on the proposed project.
The proposed development includes a runway, an apron, and other ancillary facilities. KFS said it identified the site following initial wind resource and site investigation surveys conducted in Upper Imenti Forest. The proposed airstrip will cover approximately 11 hectares.
“Earthworks at the project site are likely to have little impact on the ecosystem on account of the limited vegetation cover in the project area,” KFS pointed out.

Interested parties shall present written submissions to the County Forest Conservator’s Office in Meru Town.
Alternatively, one can download the public participation questionnaire from the KFS website, http://www.kenyaforestservice.org, and send data to director@kenyaforestservice.org.
KFS established the deadline for public comments to be July 21, 2026.
