Blow to United Opposition as Natembeya Quits DAP-Kenya

Trans Nzoia Governor and DAP-Kenya Deputy Party Leader George Natembeya has announced his departure from the party.
Natembeya made the announcement during an interview on Wednesday, July 8, where he explained that he had decided to quit due to disagreements with the party leader, Eugene Wamalwa.
He accused Wamalwa of blocking him from expanding DAP-K from a regional outfit to a national party leaving him with no option but to leave.
“I requested Hon. Eugene Wamalwa to grant me the opportunity to expand DAP-K into a broader national movement. Unfortunately, he declined. Consequently, I have no other option but to quit.” Natembeya stated.
Recent Political Move
Natembeya’s exit from DAP-Kenya comes after recent political developments that have fuelled speculation about his next move.
Over the weekend, he hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders affiliated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at his Trans Nzoia residence, where they reportedly discussed plans to establish a new political party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sources who are familiar with the meeting said community elders from the Western region were also present as the leaders mapped out a political strategy for the region.
The leaders are also said to have agreed on a series of political rallies later this month.
Linda Mwananchi
Political strategist Pauline Njoroge, a member of the Linda Mwananchi movement, said “The roadmap will begin with a major Linda Mwananchi rally in Trans Nzoia on July 25, followed by the mother of all rallies in Bungoma County on July 26, where Edwin Sifuna will be crowned the Luhya leader before being released to focus on his national campaign.”
Natembeya’s resignation also comes after months of reported differences with the DAP-Kenya leadership.

Although he had previously hinted at leaving the party, DAP-Kenya had dismissed claims of internal divisions earlier this year, insisting that Natembeya and party leader Eugene Wamalwa remained united.
At the time, the party said “For those of you who were preying on dividing our Party by driving a wedge between our party leader Eugene Wamalwa and our deputy party leader George Natembeya and DAP-K and TAWE Movement, now you have your answer!”
