Shock as Thika High School Student Dies After Alleged Dormitory Fight

Thika High School has lost a grade 10 student aged 16 years after being allegedly physically assaulted by another student within one of the dormitories of the school last night, Friday, July 10 2026.
The student, identified as Mohamed, was reportedly involved in an altercation with a classmate on Friday night before sustaining fatal injuries.
His body was later moved to General Kago Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have since opened an investigation into the incident, which has been recorded under Occurrence Book (OB) number 02/11/07/2026.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred after an alleged confrontation between two classmates, with one student reportedly pushing the other from the first floor of a school dormitory building.
The victim allegedly landed on the ground floor, suffering critical injuries that later proved fatal despite efforts to save his life.
Thika Principal Recounts Emergency Response
Speaking about the incident, Thika High School Principal Julius Muraya detailed the sequence of events after teachers responded to the fight.
“We separated the fight, told the boys who were in there to carry Mohamed to the dispensary, while the other boy, Eric Kimani, was escorted to the staff room. Mohamed, when he was rushed to the dispensary, the school clinical officer attended to him and organized with the Deputy Principal Administration to rush him to Thika Level 5 Hospital, where he was taken and while he was being treated at Thika Level 5, he was pronounced dead,” Muraya stated.

The principal further explained that the matter was immediately reported to police, who launched investigations without delay.
“The matter was immediately reported to the police station and the DCI officers immediately swung into action and arrived in school at around 11.30. They started recording statements from the eyewitnesses who were members of that class in which the two boys belong. They recorded the statements of the boys, five of them. They recorded the statement of the teacher on duty. And we were with them all the way to 2 a.m. when the parents of Eric Kimani arrived. And the parents of the other boy, the deceased, arrived at the hospital,” Julius Muraya said.
Family Demands Answers
As investigations continue, members of Mohamed’s family have expressed frustration over what they describe as a lack of communication from the school regarding the tragedy.

Jamal Aidid, a relative of the deceased, said the family had not received a clear explanation directly from the institution about what transpired before the student’s death.
On Saturday morning, relatives gathered at Thika Level 5 Hospital as they awaited the post-mortem examination before the body could be released for burial arrangements.
