NPS Breaks Silence on Kisumu, Nyahururu Chaos as One Killed, 14 Suspects Arrested

The service described the incidents as acts of political intolerance, violence, and goonism.

It said such actions undermine public order, threaten national cohesion, and violate citizens’ constitutional rights to associate, assemble, and participate in political activities peacefully.

Police-Kisumu Incident

The police also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the law and maintaining public order.

In Kisumu City, preliminary investigations indicate that two opposing groups engaged in a violent confrontation.

As a result, one person lost their life while several other people sustained injuries during the clashes.

In addition, the violence led to the torching of nine motorcycles, including a police vehicle.

However, police officers quickly intervened to contain the situation.

They arrested eight suspects and placed them in custody.

The suspects are awaiting arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, investigators continue efforts to identify and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the violence.

Police-Nyahururu Incident

In Nyahururu Town, another group allegedly attempted to disrupt a political rally.

According to the police, the group threw stones at the gathering.

Consequently, several members of the public sustained minor injuries. Among them was Joseph Gitau, who suffered a chest injury. He received treatment and was later discharged from the hospital.

Furthermore, the police dismissed claims that a shooting took place during the incident.

They stated that no shooting occurred.

Officers responded promptly and arrested six suspects.

The suspects remain in custody pending their arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service stressed that the law applies equally to everyone.

It said no person is above the law, regardless of social status, political affiliation, or public office.

The service warned that it will deal firmly with anyone found engaging in violence, sponsoring criminal gangs, inciting supporters, or disrupting lawful gatherings.

Police Appeal for the Ongoing Probe

Finally, the police appealed to members of the public to support the ongoing investigations.
