The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has ordered Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria to appear in person before its Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee after he failed to attend a scheduled hearing.
According to IEBC, David Gikaria had been expected to appear before the committee at 9 a.m. to respond to issues arising from his campaigns in Ol Kalou.
However, he did not attend the session, prompting the committee to issue fresh summons requiring his personal appearance.
“The MP of Nakuru, David Gikaria, was ordered to appear in person before the IEBC’s electoral code of conduct inquiry committee. Gikaria failed to appear at the Towers Nairobi anniversary celebration, where he was scheduled to answer questions on the electoral code bridge.”

Gikaria sent his personal assistant, Joseph Karioki Ndelema, to represent him, who said that the MP was unwell and therefore unable to attend the hearing.
However, the committee, chaired by Alutalala Mukhwana, declined to proceed with the matter in Gikaria’s absence and directed that he must appear in person at 1:30 p.m saying the session will allow him to respond to the allegations and ensure he receives a fair hearing.

The commission further maintained that it had exhausted all available avenues to notify the MP of the summons and expects him to honour the directive before any further action is considered.
Speaking by phone, Gikaria said he had not been formally informed of the latest summons issued by the committee.
His remarks came after the IEBC insisted that all necessary efforts had been made to notify him of the proceedings.
The commission is expected to determine its next course of action depending on whether the Nakuru Town East MP appears before the committee as directed.
MP David Gikaria Accusations
IEBC is seeking to question David Gikaria over the voter bribery allegations that he is linked to.
This is after a video widely shared on social media on July 7 captured Gikaria addressing residents in Mirangine town and discussing campaign expenditures in the area.

In the recording, the legislator said he had spent Sh1.2 million during campaign activities and defended the collection of identity details, describing it as an accountability measure linked to campaign spending allocations.
“Yesterday alone, right here among you, I spent Sh1.2 million, and I did not chase anyone away,” Gikaria said in the video.
He maintained that requests for identification documents were solely intended to verify beneficiaries within designated campaign zones and not to interfere with voting.
