Govt Officials Arrested Over Alleged Ksh 46,000 Cheque Bribery

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested the Nyamache District Accountant and her deputy over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe linked to the processing of a Ksh 46,000 cheque.

According to a statement dated July 17, the commission identified the suspects as District Accountant Annrose Gakenia and her deputy, Josphat Ongori Motari.

EACC stated that the arrests followed a complaint lodged with its South Nyanza Regional Office by the Children’s Officer for Etago Sub-County in Kisii County.

“The complainant alleged that the District Accountant solicited a bribe in exchange for signing a cheque for Ksh 46,000 belonging to the Etago Sub-County Children’s Office,” EACC stated.

EACC Arrests Two Nyamache Officials Over Alleged Bribery

Following the complaint, the commission noted that investigators mounted an operation leading to the arrest of Annrose Gakenia while she was allegedly receiving Ksh8,000 from the complainant.

EACC further stated that Josphat Motari was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the bribery scheme.

“Following an operation mounted by the Commission, Ms. Gakenia was arrested while allegedly receiving KSh8,000 from the complainant. Mr. Motari was also arrested in connection with the alleged bribery scheme,” the statement read.

The commission said the two suspects were processed before being released on a cash bail of Ksh20,000 each as investigations continue.

“The two suspects were processed and later released on a cash bail of KSh20,000 each pending the completion of investigations,” the commission stated.

Additionally, EACC reiterated its commitment to combating bribery and other forms of corruption across the country.

It also urged members of the public to report incidents of corruption through its official reporting channels to support ongoing efforts to enhance accountability and integrity in public service.

Suspect Held for Posing as  Investigator and Demanding Ksh 2 Million Bribe

This development comes weeks later after the commission arrested Felix Manyaga Mogaka,a suspect accused of impersonating an EACC investigator and soliciting a bribe from a member of the public.

Felix Manyaga Mogaka was arrested after allegedly approaching a director of a company contracted by the Narok County Government and claiming that the firm was under investigation for corruption.

According to the Commission, Mogaka allegedly used the false claims to demand money from the company director, promising to stop further action against the firm.

He allegedly later arranged a meeting at a hotel, where he demanded Ksh 2 million to allegedly prevent additional action.

Therefore, upon receiving the complaint, EACC launched an operation targeting the suspect, and he was arrested on June 22, 2026, while he was allegedly receiving part of the requested amount.
