Gachagua Reveals What Ruto Is Expected to Address in Tonight's National Address

Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that a nominated female senator was behind the attack that led to the death of musician Rachel Wandeto, who was allegedly set ablaze in Mwiki.

Speaking on August 6, Gachagua claimed that Wandeto was killed to conceal information, although he did not specify what that information was.

He further alleged that the senator lured Wandeto to the assailants, who then attacked her.

“A female nominated organized how Rachel was supposed to be killed in Mwiki,” Gachagua said. Besides, Gachagua claimed that unnamed police officers we behind the attack.

Gachagua Says Nominated Senator Played A Part in Rachel’s Death

He further claimed that the perpetrators have not been arrested because of the alleged involvement of influential individuals from the government.

In addition, Gachagua alleged that unnamed police officers were also involved in the attack on the musician.

“The killers of Rachel Wandeto cannot be arrested because it was organized by a nominated senator and the killers are police men,” he claimed.

Rachel wandetto passed away while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital after unknown individuals attacked her, pouring petrol on her before setting her ablaze in Mwiki.

Following the attack ,she sustained critical burns and was rushed to the hospital in a bid to try to save her life, but succumbed to the injuries on Monday, May 18, 2026.

It is alleged that the incident came days after Wandeto publicly expressed support for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, including drawing a tattoo in his honour.

Ruto Promises Family of the Musician Justice

The incident also drew the attention of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who visited Wandeto on Sunday, a day before her demise.

During the visit, Murkomen condemned the attack, issuing orders to the police to fast-track investigations and bring the perpetrators to book.

“If it is true, as there have been speculations around the possibility of a political motive by basically attacking her for her political beliefs, this is really very dangerous for our country,” Murkomen stated.

Additionally , Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that investigations had already commenced, further ordering the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to move with speed to establish what transpired and the motive behind the attack.

Meanwhile, few days after her death , president William Ruto promised her family jusitice vowing that his government would take action against the perpetrators.

The president reiterated that firm action would be taken against those responsible regardless of their political affiliation and added that those involved will be held accountable.

“The criminals that attacked this hardworking and promising lady will be held to account, irrespective of their affiliation,” Ruto stated.
