George Peter Opondo Kaluma is a Kenyan lawyer and politician who has represented Homa Bay Town Constituency in the National Assembly since 2013.
Kaluma was born in 1976 and began his education at Ndiru Primary School, where he pursued his primary education before joining St Joseph’s High School, Rapogi.
He later enrolled at the University of Nairobi, where he studied for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) between 1996 and 2000.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Kaluma joined the Kenya School of Law and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies between 2000 and 2001.
He returned to the University of Nairobi in 2006 to pursue a Master of Laws (LL.M).
Peter Kaluma Legal Career
Kaluma started his legal career at Lumumba & Mumma Advocates, where he served as a pupil between 2000 and 2001.
He then joined B. M. Musau & Co. Advocates in Nairobi as an associate from 2002 to 2003.
In 2004, he returned to Lumumba, Mumma & Kaluma Advocates, where he became a partner. He remained at the firm until 2012.
His career also extended into legal education. Kaluma taught at the Kenya School of Law and Kabarak University from 2009 to 2012. Between 2011 and 2012, he also lectured at the University of Nairobi.
Kaluma’s Entry Into Parliament
Kaluma entered elective politics in the 2013 General Election, when he won the Homa Bay Town parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket.
He has represented the constituency in the National Assembly since March 2013.
His background as a lawyer has also shaped his work in Parliament, where he has participated in matters involving law, governance and constitutional issues.

Political Voice

Opondo Kaluma is married to Meresia Adundo, also known as Meresia Opondo, a Kenyan judicial officer and Principal Magistrate.
Meresia has served in several courts within the Nairobi area, including Makadara Law Courts. In her role as a magistrate, she has handled various criminal and civil matters, including mentions and rulings.
The couple has largely kept details of their marriage and family life away from the public spotlight.

MPs who serve on parliamentary committees can also receive committee sitting allowances. Committee chairpersons earn Ksh15,000 per sitting, subject to a maximum of Ksh240,000 per month.
Lawmakers also receive a motor vehicle allowance of up to Ksh7.55 million once during a parliamentary term for the purchase of a vehicle for official duties.
