CS Ogamba Clarifies 2026 KCSE and School Dates

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has clarified the 2026 Term III school reopening dates and examination schedule.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Ministry of Education said the official school calendar remains unchanged despite reports circulating on social media claiming that the reopening dates had been postponed.

The ministry confirmed that pre-primary, primary, junior, senior and secondary schools will reopen for Term III on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The term will run for nine weeks and end on October 23, 2026.

“The official term dates communicated earlier and also available in the ministry’s website remain unchanged,” the ministry stated.

The Ministry of Education further warned the public against relying on the reports circulating online, describing claims about the postponement of school opening dates as “FALSE and should be completely disregarded.”

The CS also confirmed that the scheduled national assessments and examinations will proceed as planned.

The ministry said the official dates for KPSEA, KILEA, KJSEA, KPLEA and KCSE remain as scheduled from October 26, 2026, onwards.

The ministry has directed all Regional Directors of Education, County Directors of Education and Sub-County Directors of Education to ensure strict compliance with the approved academic calendar.

It also reminded schools that extracurricular activities and visits to secondary schools will remain banned during Term III.

“Parents, teachers, and learners are urged to rely exclusively on official communication channels from the Ministry of Education and ignore unauthorized online notices,” the ministry said.

Diploma Teacher Training Colleges will also resume academic operations on Monday, August 24, 2026, and conclude on November 6, 2026.

The Ministry of Education has urged parents, teachers and learners to disregard unauthorised notices and rely on official ministry communication for any updates to the school calendar.

False Notice Causes Confusion Ahead of Term Three

The clarification comes just days before schools are scheduled to reopen for the third term, amid concerns that the false notice could confuse parents, learners and teachers as they prepare for the new term.

The notice, which has since been flagged as false, claimed that Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba had directed the postponement of school reopening to September 15 for senior schools and other secondary schools.

The Ministry has, however, dismissed the claim and maintained that the official academic calendar remains unchanged.
