Nairobi County Raises Noise Permit Fees for Weddings, Roadshows and Night Events

Nairobi residents will now pay higher fees for noise permits after Nairobi City County revised the charges for events that generate noise in residential areas under the new Finance Act 2026.

Under the revised fees, organisers of weddings held in residential areas will pay Ksh 20,000 for a noise permit, while those holding weddings in gardens will pay Ksh 10,000.

Churches and mosques will pay an annual noise permit fee of KSh5,000. Roadshows will attract permit fees ranging from Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 50,000, depending on the nature of the event.

Short-term night events will attract the highest permit fee of Ksh 100,000 per event.

Noise Pollution

Nairobi City County says the changes are aimed at controlling noise pollution and ensuring organisers secure necessary permits before their events.

Organizers who fail to pay the permit fees risk paying up to three times the permit amount required by the county.

Nairobi continues to tighten enforcement against excessive noise from entertainment venues, roadshows, businesses and places of worship after complaints from residents regarding noise pollution.

National regulations by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) also require activities that surpass the allowed noise levels to secure the required permits.

Who The Charges Apply To

According to the revised fee schedule, the charges apply to individuals, organizations, and even institutions that want to conduct activities that generate amplified sound that affects people.

These permits are organized by event type, location, and event duration, with large events required to pay higher permit fees.

For weddings, these new rules distinguish between events held within residential neighborhoods and those hosted in designated garden venues.

Couples planning ceremonies in residential estates will pay Ksh 20,000, while those using garden venues will pay Ksh 10,000 for the required permit.

Roadshows, which are commonly used by businesses, political campaigns and promotional events, will attract fees ranging from Ksh10,000 to Ksh 50,000 depending on the scale and nature of the activity.

Additionally, these latest changes to fees form part of a wider effort to improve urban management of noise pollution through these updated licensing charges.
