Sakaja Announces Ksh 6.4M Fund for Nairobi Youth – How to Apply

Nairobi City County, led by Governor Johnson Sakaja, is inviting applications from youths who want to participate in the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) 2027, which is about youths implementing their ideas on climate.

According to a statement by Nairobi City County, the county will be able to receive 50,000 USD in grant funding, with at least eight eligible projects by youths to receive micro grants from 1000 to 5000 USD.

To apply, one is required to be between the ages of 15 and 24 and also be part of a youth-led organization with practical ideas that can help address climate change in Nairobi.

Requirements For Application

Another requirement is to submit a clear description of the proposed project that you want to be funded, explaining how it will help Nairobi deal with climate change.

In addition, a budget should also be included explaining how the funds that will be given will be used to fund the project that you are proposing.

The projects should also align with Nairobi’s climate priorities, which are waste reduction, urban greening, tree planting, biodiversity restoration, food resilience, and drainage protection.

More Nairobi’s climate priorities are water conservation, clean mobility, air quality, renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate-smart urban farming and food systems.

Application Dates

The call for applications is set to open on September 4, 2026 and will remain open for six weeks and close on October 16, 2026.

Additionally, more information on eligibility and how to apply will be shared once the call is open on September 4, 2026.

Youth-led groups that are not incorporated may partner with a registered organization as a fiscal sponsor in order to be considered.

Applicants should also demonstrate the ability to manage project funds and implement the activities.

Nairobi’s youth will have access to resources and a platform to move from talking about climate change to leading solutions in their own communities, using their own ideas and projects.
