Traffic Disruption as Major Roads Close Ahead of Police Recruits’ Pass-Out Parade

Motorists travelling along the Nairobi–Karatina–Nyeri–Nanyuki highway have been advised to expect significant traffic disruptions following the temporary closure of a section of the Sagana–Marua Dual Carriageway on Friday, August 28, 2026.

The affected stretch runs from the Ola Petrol Station in Karatina through Mathaithi to Marua and has been closed to facilitate the Police Recruits Pass-Out Parade at the Kiganjo Police Training College.

This closure is expected to affect motorists travelling between Nairobi, Nyeri and Nanyuki, with authorities warning of heavy traffic along the Nyeri- Nairobi highway.

Road users who are approaching Karatina town are advised to look for an alternative route to avoid the closed section in order to minimise travel delays.

Police Pass-out

The pass-out parade marks the end of training for police recruits at the Kiganjo Police Training Centre. This event usually attracts government officials, security personnel and invited guests.

An event like this usually requires enhanced security measures and temporary traffic management, which includes the closure of nearby major roads.

Authorities have urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officers stationed along the route and follow the guidance provided to ensure smooth movement where diversions have been established.

Drivers who are heading towards Nyeri, Marua, Nanyuki and surrounding areas have also been encouraged to allow additional travel time, as traffic is expected to build up throughout the day.

Motorists To Seek Alternative Routes

Public service vehicle operators and long-distance travellers using the corridor have been advised to monitor traffic updates and adjust their travel plans where possible to avoid prolonged delays.

The Nairobi–Nyeri–Nanyuki corridor is one of the country’s key transport routes, serving commuters, traders and travellers connecting Central Kenya with other parts of the country.
