Gachagua Ally Puts Prophet Owuor on Spot Over Church Leaders’ State House Visit

Edward Owuor, popularly known as Prophet Owuor has come under scrutiny after Senator Methu Muhia alleged that senior leaders of the Repentance and Holiness Church are resisting pressure to visit State House and commit their support to President William Ruto.

On Thursday morning, September 10, Muhia claimed that a senior Archbishop from the church called him and disclosed that the leadership was being pushed to accompany Owuor to State House.

“This morning, a senior Archbishop of the Repentance and Holliness church has called me and openly told me that the church through it’s leadership is being forced to go with the Mightiest Prophet of the Lord Dr. Edward Owour to statehouse,” Muhia stated.

Prophet Owuor Faces Alleged Pressure

Meanwhile, Muhia claimed that about 80% of the church’s leadership had rejected the proposed visit, creating resistance among bishops and other senior officials.

He alleged that bishops, senior bishops, archbishops, and senior archbishops faced pressure to accept the visit despite their objections.

Muhia then named Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi as the person allegedly driving the push, claiming that the lawmaker had cited his mother’s membership in the church as a reason for its leadership to support Ruto.

“The person driving this craze is Mr. Oscar Kipchumba Sudi who claims that his mother worships in that church so the church must go and committ to support Mr. William Samoei Ruto,” Muhia alleged.

The senator’s claims come as political activity gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election, with politicians seeking to build support among religious and community groups.

Furthermore, Muhia compared the alleged situation at the Repentance and Holiness Church with the controversy surrounding the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA).

Methu Warns of Political Pressure

Muhia argued that the Repentance and Holiness Church had previously kept its distance from what he described as pressure from the Ruto administration.

He warned that forcing church leaders into a political engagement could damage the institution’s public image and undermine its independence.

“The church, especially the Repentance and Holiness church, has so far steered away from the oppression of Mr. Ruto and therefore forcing them to taint their image is extremely unfortunate,” he said.

However, Muhia did not provide documentary evidence to support his claim that 80% of the church leadership had rejected the alleged visit. He instead based the claim on the information he said he received from the senior Archbishop.

As the 2027 political contest approaches, the allegations have placed Owuor at the centre of questions over the role of religious institutions in political engagements.

Neither Owuor nor the Repentance and Holiness Church leadership had publicly responded to Muhia’s allegations by the time of publication. Sudi had also not responded to the senator’s claims.
