TUK Releases Fresh HELB Funding Update, Gives Students New Deadline

The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has announced a new deadline for students who have not yet applied for government funding through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
In a notice dated September 9, 2026, the university advised students who have not submitted their HELB loan and scholarship applications to complete the process by September 21, through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal.
“Students who have not yet submitted their HELB loan and/or scholarship applications are strongly advised to complete their applications on or before the new deadline of 21st September, 2026 through the HEF Portal: https://portal.hef.co.ke,” read part of the statement.
Students Urged to Seek HELB Assistance
To assist students with their applications and funding-related concerns, HELB officers will be available at the university on Thursday, September 10. The help desk will be located at the Lecture Theatre.
“To support students with applications, funding queries and allocation-related concerns, HELB officers will be available at the University today, Thursday, 10th September 2026, at the Lecture Theatre,” TUK stated.

Students can seek assistance on government funding, loan applications and financial aid allocations, including queries concerning their funding.
Additionally, the university has encouraged students who have not yet applied for government funding to take advantage of the new deadline and complete their applications within the stipulated period.
TUK also urged affected students to seek clarification from the HELB officers on any funding or allocation concerns.
“Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to seek clarification and assistance on matters relating to government funding, loan applications and financial aid allocations.”
TUK Students to Receive Updated Fee Statements
TUK also informed students that HELB has completed financial aid allocations for those who submitted their applications by September 3, 2026.

In addition, the university said updated fee statements for the affected students will be available on the Student Portal by close of business on Thursday, September 10.
The statements will indicate the specific household contribution amount payable by each student.
“Following the completion of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) financial aid allocations for students who submitted their applications by 3rd September 2026, students are hereby informed that their updated fee statements will be available on the Student Portal by close of business today, 10th September, 2026,”said the Varsity.
The updated statements will reflect the specific household contribution amount payable by each student.
