Nairobi lawyer Benard Odero Okello has been arrested after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) directed police at Parklands Police Station to charge him over alleged forgery and uttering a false document.
Odero, of Benard Odero & Company Advocates, was arrested at his office at the Westery building in Westlands, Nairobi, following investigations into a complaint filed by three officials of the Kenya County Government Workers Union, Nairobi Branch.
The ODPP directive followed investigations into allegations that Odero had presented false documents bearing forged signatures of the three officials before the Nairobi Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi Cause No. E068 of 2022.
In the case, Odero allegedly presented a Change of Signatory & Fee Note Agreement purporting that the complainants had signed an arrangement for him to receive Ksh 150 million upon the conclusion of a case in which he claimed to have represented them.
Odero Accused of Presenting Forged Documents
The three complainants disputed having executed or signed the agreement, prompting investigators to submit the disputed documents and specimens of their known signatures to a forensic document examiner for analysis.
“The ODPP’s directive to charge Odero followed painstaking investigations into a complaint filed by three Kenya County Government Workers Union officials, Nairobi Branch who discovered that the suspect had presented a case before the said ELRC at Nairobi Cause No. E068 of 2022, where he presented false documents with forged signatures of the three,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated.
According to the DCI, the forensic examination confirmed that the documents presented before the court had been forged, supporting the complainants’ assertion that the signatures appearing on the disputed documents were not theirs.

“But the complainants disputed having executed or signed the said agreement. The disputed documents, together with specimens of the complainants’ known signatures were hence submitted to the forensic document examiner for analysis,” DCI said.
Following the forensic findings, the ODPP issued a directive on September 2, 2026, for Odero to face two counts of forgery and a charge of uttering a false document.
City Lawyer Allegedly Ignores Police Summons
Police subsequently summoned Odero to present himself at Parklands Police Station, but he allegedly failed to comply. Officers then launched a manhunt and eventually traced him to his office in Westlands.
During the arrest, the DCI said Odero threatened to jump from the eighth-floor window of his office in an attempt to evade the officers.

Odero Accused of Biting Officers
After officers eventually apprehended him, Odero allegedly attacked two police officers who were attempting to handcuff him by biting them.
“To evade the arrest, the suspect threatened to jump off from the 8th floor window of his office, and when he was finally nabbed, attacked by biting two police officers who were trying to cuff him,” DCI added.
Consequently, police are expected to prefer additional charges of resisting arrest and assaulting police officers against Odero, alongside the two approved forgery charges and the charge of uttering a false document.
The lawyer is expected to be presented before court as the case proceeds.
