Babu Dismisses Tensions With Sifuna, Backs His Presidential Bid

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has addressed questions surrounding his support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, amid growing divisions and political tensions within the Linda Mwananchi movement.

While addressing the press on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Babu said his decision to support Sifuna was driven by their political relationship and his desire to stand by his colleague, dismissing suggestions that he was seeking financial or political benefits from the move.

He added that he had repeatedly declared his support for Sifuna’s presidential ambitions during visits to different parts of the country.

“I didn’t go there to make political money. I went there to take care of my brother. I would have chosen to stay in Nairobi if I hadn’t been supporting him.”

Babu maintained that his position on Sifuna’s presidential bid had been clear and should not be interpreted as an attempt to create political competition between the two leaders.

Embakasi East MP Dismisses Claims of Rift With Sifuna

The Embakasi East MP also dismissed claims that he was unhappy with Sifuna or that tensions had emerged between the two leaders.

Babu said there was no disagreement between them, addressing claims that he was jealous of Sifuna or frustrated by the senator’s political ambitions.

“So, for those who have doubts about my relationship with my brother Sifuna, you should know that I have no particular problem with him.”

He insisted that there was no challenge between the two and urged supporters not to interpret their different political positions as evidence of a falling-out.

Babu further argued that there was no reason for him to conflict with Sifuna because the two leaders do not have competing political ambitions.

He said he is not seeking the presidency, while Sifuna is not seeking the Nairobi governorship, dismissing suggestions that the two could be political rivals.

“There’s no point. There’s no point in Babu fighting against Sifuna. Because Babu doesn’t want to be president. Sifuna doesn’t want to be governor. Why are we fighting?”

Babu maintained that his support for Sifuna should therefore not be viewed as a source of conflict, reiterating that he had no problem with the senator.

He called on those following the political developments to avoid heightening tensions and instead focus on unity.

Babu Addresses Abbie Zuena at Jacaranda Grounds

Babu’s remarks come amid heightened political exchanges within Linda Mwananchi, including an incident involving political analyst and movement supporter Abigael Gikonyo, popularly known as Abbie Zuena.

On September 13, 2026, Babu publicly addressed Zuena during a Linda Mwananchi gathering at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi.

“I have seen you, Abby, but be a good person; we do not want mischief here,” Babu told her during the event.

The remarks came as Babu addressed supporters during the political movement’s mega rally in Jacaranda, Nairobi.

Zuena has been associated with Sifuna and has publicly supported Babu’s political ambitions. She has also participated in Linda Mwananchi activities, including an incident in Homa Bay earlier in 2026 where she faced violence during a rally.

Following the exchange, Zuena shared a message that appeared to respond to the controversy surrounding her interaction with Babu.
