Kenya Met Lists Areas Set for Rainfall in Next 5 Days After Nairobi Rains

Nairobi to Experience Rain and Chilly Conditions, Kenya Met Says

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD ) has predicted light to moderate rainfall and intermittent cold and cloudy conditions in several parts of the country this week, from Sunday, September 20, to Thursday, September 24, 2026.

According to a weather forecast issued on September 19, Kenya Met said parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Wajir and Garissa are likely to experience intermittent cold and cloudy conditions during the period.

“Light to moderate rainfall is expected in several counties. Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur in some parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Wajir and Garissa Counties,” read part of the forecast.

Nairobi to Receive Morning Rains

In Nairobi, the authority predicted light morning rains on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, with cloudy-to-sunny intervals expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

Light afternoon showers are expected on Sunday and Monday before sunny intervals become dominant from Tuesday, with temperatures ranging between 13°C and 28°C during the five-day period.

Additionally, Kenya Met stated that several counties in Central Kenya are also expected to experience rainfall and chilly conditions.

In Kiambu, light morning rains are forecast from Sunday to Tuesday, with moderate afternoon showers expected on Sunday and Monday.

Murang’a is expected to receive light morning rains and afternoon showers during the first part of the week.

In Nyeri, light morning rains are forecast throughout the five days, with afternoon showers expected on Sunday and Monday and minimum temperatures falling to 5°C on Monday.

Nyandarua is also expected to remain relatively cool, with temperatures dropping to 5°C on Monday.

Rain Expected in Eastern Kenya

According to Kenya Met, several counties across Eastern Kenya are expected to experience rainfall.

Embu is expected to receive light to moderate rains during the mornings and showers in the afternoons, while Kitui experiences light morning rains from Sunday to Tuesday and moderate afternoon showers on Sunday.

Machakos is also expected to receive light morning rains and afternoon showers from Sunday to Tuesday before conditions become sunnier later in the week.

Additionally, the weatherman predicts moderate showers in Mombasa on Sunday, followed by light showers through Thursday. Sunny intervals are expected during some afternoons from Tuesday.

Kwale is expected to experience moderate showers on Sunday before conditions improve, while Kilifi will receive moderate showers on Sunday followed by lighter showers.

In Lamu, moderate showers are forecast on Sunday and Monday, with lighter showers and sunny intervals expected later in the week.

Northern Kenya to Experience Hot Conditions

While parts of Central and Western Kenya are expected to experience rain and cooler conditions, northern counties will record much warmer temperatures.

Mandera is forecast to record a maximum temperature of 37°C on Sunday, while temperatures are expected to remain between 34°C and 35°C during the rest of the period.

Turkana could also reach 37°C, with sunny intervals expected throughout the five days.

Furthermore, Kenya Met stated that in Wajir, maximum temperatures will range between 32°C and 34°C, with light morning rains expected from Monday to Wednesday.

Garissa is forecast to record temperatures of between 29°C and 33°C, with light afternoon showers expected on Sunday and Monday.

Western to Receive Showers

Several counties in Western Kenya are expected to experience showers during the week.

Kakamega is forecast to receive light showers on Monday, followed by moderate afternoon showers from Tuesday to Thursday.

Vihiga will experience moderate showers on Monday, with moderate nighttime showers expected from Tuesday through Thursday.

In Bungoma, light showers are expected on Monday, followed by moderate afternoon showers from Tuesday to Thursday.

Kisumu is expected to receive light afternoon showers from Monday through Thursday, while Kisii will also experience light afternoon showers during the period.
