Man Drowns in Pool Hours Before Dream Trip to UK for Royal Navy Opportunity

A man identified as Pato Palmer has died after drowning at a swimming pool, just hours before he was scheduled to fly to London for an opportunity with the Royal Navy.

In a tribute shared on Facebook by Kennie Balo, Palmer was expected to fly to London on September 21, after successfully securing the opportunity.

Balo said Palmer had obtained his visa, booked his flight, and shared the news of his upcoming journey with friends, describing the opportunity as a new chapter in his life.

“This guy, imagine, today he was supposed to be travelling to the UK, London, to join the Royal Navy. His flight was scheduled for today. He had been working at Java in Nanyuki until he applied for this opportunity in the UK. He got it. He was so happy, and everything went well: the visa was approved, the flight was booked, and he had even told his friends that he was going abroad,” Balo stated.

Palmer Dies During Final Swimming Session

According to the Facebook influencer, Palmer was at a swimming pool on Sunday, September 20, where he was undertaking what was described as his final workout before the journey.

However, something reportedly went wrong while he was at the pool, leading to his drowning.

He was retrieved shortly afterwards and rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Then yesterday, while he was doing his final workout at the swimming pool, something happened, and he drowned. He was retrieved moments later and rushed to hospital, but upon arrival, he was pronounced dead.”

Balo said Palmer leaves behind a wife and a child and sent his condolences to Palmer’s family, describing the death as a heartbreaking loss.

“Life is truly fragile. May his family find strength during this heartbreaking loss. Rest in peace, Pato Palmer,”

Kenyans React to the Sudden Death

Meanwhile, the death of Palmer has sparked reactions on social media, with some Kenyans reflecting on the timing of the tragedy and Palmer’s decision to share news of his upcoming trip with friends.

Some suggested that people should be more careful about publicly discussing major personal achievements or plans, expressing the view that not everyone may be happy about another person’s progress.

One Kenyan, Justin Ashikoye, questioned the circumstances surrounding the drowning and argued that people should be cautious about sharing their plans and achievements with others.

Others echoed similar sentiments, saying people should keep major opportunities private until they have materialised.

Styvestrine Rey attributed the tragedy to God’s plan while advising people not to share their plans with everyone.

“Nani huambia vijana kwamba Mungu akikuinua unakimbia kutangazia ulimwungu mzima kwamba sasa umefaulu unaenda majuu? Sio wote unaowaona ni binadamu. Wengine na mizuka. Fanya mambo yako KIMYA,” said Wakube Peter

Additionally, others have focused on the unpredictability of life, with some urging people to appreciate life and celebrate opportunities while they can.

“That’s why even if I don’t make it ata sahizi sina chochote just there but I still thank God for the gift of life,nothing is permanent in this world,” Alfredo Ochieng said.
