Man Arrested Over Alleged Forgery of Court Documents

Detectives in Meru County have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of running a scheme involving the production and use of fake court documents targeting litigants with pending cases.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said detectives from Mutuati apprehended the suspect, who allegedly posed as a court officer to convince unsuspecting members of the public that the documents he supplied had been officially issued.

The suspect is accused of targeting litigants with matters before the Maua Law Courts and the Meru High Court, allegedly presenting them with counterfeit orders and other documents connected to their cases.

Suspect Accused of Posing as Court Officer

According to the DCI, the suspect allegedly misled the litigants by presenting himself as a court official, creating the impression that the paperwork was genuine and had been obtained through legitimate court channels.

Detectives moved to his rented residence in Mutuati Town after the arrest, where they conducted a search and recovered several documents suspected to be part of the scheme.

Among the items seized were purported court orders bearing the names of the High Court of Kenya at Meru and the Maua Law Courts.

Investigators also recovered Certificates of Land Title, identity cards and other materials believed to be linked to suspected fraudulent activities.

Recovered Documents Under Investigation

DCI said the seized materials have been secured as exhibits as detectives work to establish their authenticity and determine how they were obtained and used.

The documents will undergo further verification and examination as investigations into the suspected scheme continue, as suspect remains in custody at Kabachi Police Post pending arraignment in court.

His arrest comes as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged production and presentation of the documents to people with ongoing court matters.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the suspect has not been convicted of any offence.
