Kalonzo: We May Have to ‘Shake Hands’ With Ruto If Opposition Loses 2027

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has opened up about working with President William Ruto after the 2027 General Elections.

Kalonzo says that if the opposition fails to win the general elections in 2027, they will be forced to shake hands with President Ruto.

If we win, okay; if we lose, we may have to consider these things,” Kalonzo said.

He additionally advised President Ruto to stop criticising former President Uhuru Kenyatta by saying he is financing the opposition and calling him their sponsor because he is not.

“I want to advise my brother William Ruto, if you want to deal with Uhuru, please realize he will not be in the ballot against you. Wachana na Uhuru, ingilia Kalonzo but do it in a decent democratic manner,” said Kalonzo.

During his address, Kalonzo indicated that the opposition’s immediate focus remains on seeking victory at the ballot, while suggesting that discussions about post-election cooperation would only arise if they failed to win the elections.

His comments marked a shift from his recent insistence that the opposition’s priority was defeating the Kenya Kwanza administration through the electoral process.

Kalonzo also used the opportunity to defend former President Uhuru Kenyatta, dismissing claims that the retired Head of State was bankrolling opposition activities.

Instead, he urged President Ruto to direct political criticism at active competitors rather than someone who will not be on the ballot in 2027.

The Wiper leader has previously maintained that any engagement with President Ruto should only come after the 2027 elections, arguing that the current contest should be settled through democratic competition at the ballot.

His remarks are expected to spark further discussion over post-election political cooperation as the country heads toward the 2027 General Election, with leaders across the political divide continuing to shape their strategies and alliances ahead of the ballot.
