Gloves Off as Ruto Takes Aim at Uhuru Over Dangote, Accuses Sifuna of Extortion

President William Ruto accuses Uhuru of using Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to extort the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, over an agreement about the planned oil refinery in Lamu.
Speaking in Mombasa on Thursday, October 1, Ruto questioned Sifuna’s demand for Parliament to be allowed to scrutinise the agreement between the Kenyan government and Dangote Group.
“You, ‘Mr Empty’, have been sent by your sponsor to demand the agreement so that you can take him to court, swindle him and extort money from him,” Ruto said.
Senator Sifuna had raised concerns in the Senate, saying that lawmakers had not been informed about the commitment that Kenya had made towards the construction of the refinery in Lamu.
Sifuna’s Take On The Refinery
“None of us has seen the agreement on that refinery. None of us knows the commitments that this country has given in order for that refinery to be built,” Sifuna said.
Additionally, Ruto said Sifuna has no values and is an extortionist, and he used to extort money from governors; he also called him rude, labelling him as a person of no value to the country.

“Huyo Mr. Empty alikuwa anatuambia kwa kiburi na madharau ati ako na values. What values does an extortionist have in the Republic of Kenya?” Ruto said.
In addition, Ruto said that Sifuna was sent by former head of state Uhuru Kenyatta to do all that because he is against the planned oil refinery being built in Lamu County.
Ruto’s Warning
Further, Ruto warned those he accused of interfering with the project, saying, “Those people, I tell you, will have to deal with me. Things are going to get tough. I will deal with them,”

The proposed refinery, which broke ground in Lamu on September 30, 2026, is expected to have a capacity of 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The project has also attracted scrutiny over land, compensation, and environmental concerns, including a court case filed by Lamu residents.
