Kenya Lands Another Global Sporting Event Weeks After 2029 Athletics Win, Ruto Announces

Kenya will host the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally in 2027, President William Ruto has announced. The president confirmed on Thursday, October 8, that the Safari Rally will remain in Kenya, with the event set to take place in Naivasha.
The announcement comes only weeks after Kenya secured the right to host another major international sporting event, the 2029 World Athletics Championships.
The 2027 WRC calendar lists Kenya as the third round of the championship. The Safari Rally will run from March 18 to 21, 2027, as part of a 15-round championship held across five continents.
Kenya will host the rally after the opening rounds in Monaco and Sweden. The championship will then move to Croatia, Spain, Japan, Greece, Italy, Estonia, Finland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Paraguay, Chile and Saudi Arabia.
Ruto Confirms Safari Rally Will Stay in Kenya
President Ruto welcomed the return of the international rally to Kenya, saying some of the world’s finest drivers will once again compete on Kenyan roads.
“I am delighted to confirm that Kenya will host the WRC Safari Rally in 2027.”
The President said the event would take drivers through Kenya’s plains and valleys, including the legendary roads of Naivasha.
“The Safari was born on Kenyan soil. It belongs on Kenyan soil.”
Ruto also said the rally has become an important platform for showcasing Kenya to an international audience.
“Every edition fills our hotels, energises our businesses and carries the beauty of our country to screens across the world.”

Kenya Adds Another Major Sporting Event
The Safari Rally announcement adds to Kenya’s recent list of major international sporting commitments.
The country is also set to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, giving Kenya another major global sporting event to look forward to.
With the Safari Rally scheduled for March 2027 and the World Athletics Championships coming in 2029, Kenya will have further opportunities to welcome international athletes, drivers, fans and visitors while showcasing its sporting and tourism potential.

Ruto thanked the Ministry of Sports, the WRC Safari Rally Project, private-sector partners, the FIA and the WRC Promoter for their role in making the 2027 Safari Rally possible.
He ended his announcement with a message to those looking forward to the event in Naivasha.
