DCI Arrests 42-Year-Old in Juja After AK-47 Rifle Found Hidden in Vehicle

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 42-year-old man in Juja Sub-County after searching his vehicle and recovering an AK-47 rifle during a patrol operation on 26 May 2026.

In a statement, DCI said the officers were targeting illegal firearms as part of their efforts to enhance security in Kiambu County.

“The officers intercepted a suspicious green Nissan X-Trail registration number KDC 630J on Kenyatta Road, approximately 1 kilometer West of Muigai Inn Police Post. Both the vehicle and its occupants were escorted to Muigai Inn Police Post for thorough screening,” the police report read.

Illegal Firearm and Other Items Found

The detectives conducted an immediate search of the vehicle, which led them to an AK-47 rifle hidden under the driver’s seat.

The weapon was found loaded with 11 rounds in its magazine and one in the chamber, the police said.

“The firearm was hidden under the driver’s seat,” the report confirmed. Three more rounds of 7.62 millimeter ammunition were found beside the driver’s seat.

Several other items that are considered to be potentially illegal were recovered and are being analyzed by the police to help further their investigation.

Among the recovered items were two daggers, some pieces of uni tape, 56 nylon cable ties, several sacks, tying ropes, and a bunch of keys.

All items were collected and bagged as exhibits.

Man Arrested by DCI with an Illegal Weapon 

The arrested man has been identified as John Muiruri, a 42-year-old Kikuyu male, who was arrested and later escorted along with the vehicle to Juja Police Station.

“He is currently in custody awaiting further investigations,” the report stated.

Investigators are seeking information from the public to help trace the owner and determine where the weapon was obtained and its intended use.

DCI has revealed that detectives discovered the weapon during a routine patrol aimed at removing illegal weapons from the area.
