Former KTN journalist and news anchor Esther Arunga has once again drawn public attention following reports that her husband, Quincy Timberlake, has completed the custodial part of his prison sentence in Australia over the death of their son.

Timberlake was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2023 after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of the couple’s three-year-old son.

Their son’s name was Sinclair Timberlake and he died in 2014 at their home in Kallangur, north of Brisbane.

Prosecutors told the court that Timberlake believed the child was possessed by evil spirits and assaulted him in an attempt to get rid of the demons.

Esther Defended Her Husband

The case shocked both Kenya and Australia, not only because of the tragic circumstances surrounding the child’s death, but also due to Esther’s initial defence of her husband.

According to court proceedings, both Esther and Timberlake first told police that the child had fallen down the stairs.

However, Esther later admitted she had lied to investigators to protect her husband.

She eventually revealed that Timberlake had physically assaulted the child on the night he died.

Esther Was Also Sentenced

In 2019, Esther pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter and received a 10-month sentence, although she was immediately released on parole.

Before the scandal and criminal case, Esther was among Kenya’s most recognizable media personalities.

The former KTN and Capital FM presenter built a reputation as a talented journalist and news anchor before her sudden exit from the media industry in 2010.

Her relationship with Timberlake and controversial preacher Joseph Hellon thrust her into the spotlight after the trio faced allegations of involvement in the “Finger of God” sect in Kenya.

Timberlake Could Return To Kenya

Although charges linked to the alleged cult activities were later dismissed, the controversy marked a turning point in her public life.

The couple later relocated to Australia, where they sought asylum.

Recent reports say that Timberlake remains in immigration detention after his visa was cancelled.

He therefore could face deportation back to Kenya following the completion of his prison sentence.
