How to Download HELB Loan Statement and Manage Repayment
Share
All loan recipients are now expected to check and download loan statements via the Higher Education Loans Board portal, as the board’s statement will replace visits to its offices.
A statement by HELB revealed that the statements, showing loan repayments, could be accessed at www.helb.co.ke.
Loanees will access the statements from the Loanees Portal and then download balance statements, compliance and clearance certificates.
The board instructed all students and graduates to click on www.helb.co.ke and log in to the loanee’s portal using their National ID number and password.
Loanees will then select and enter their login details.
While on the page, loanees can download PDF copies of their loan balances after they have been logged in by selecting the self-serve or statement tab, then pressing the option download or generate loan statement.
After pressing on the download statement, you can access the loan statement by saving it as a PDF

HELB Loan Statement Management and Repayment
The board noted that the portal enables loaners to manage loan repayments and balances and to secure clearance certificates without making the trip to its offices in Nairobi.
“The loan agreement continues to apply throughout the application, the entire period while a student or a trainee in university or college and until the loan has been paid off fully.” The Board stated.
Loanees are to ensure that the board is updated with all relevant contacts, which include;
- ID number.
- PIN number.
- Telephone number.
- Email address and postal address.
According to the HELB Act 1995, loan recipients are supposed to update the board with their contacts when changes occur and start loan repayment after a one-year post-study period has elapsed.
They are supposed to allow their respective employers to make loan repayment deductions in cases where the loanee has a permanent employment status.

HELB Portal Benefits and Repayment Commencement
HELB officials claimed that the portal will do away with the long manual enquiry process for loan verification required by some graduates in employment, saving time and the inconvenience and possible penalties that are often incurred by loan applicants for monitoring loan balances and making payments later than when the loan becomes payable.
Loanees unable to access their accounts will download the Enquiry Form from the loanee’s portal page.
The board stated that all loan recipients are to commence loan repayment a year after graduating, or when HELB recalls the loan, whichever date comes first.
It encouraged loanees to keep logging in to obtain copies of their updated loan statements.
