Kenya Airways has confirmed that two of its flights were temporarily diverted on Sunday morning after fog reduced visibility on the approach to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) runway.
The airline said KQ flights 739 from Lilongwe and 709 from Harare were redirected to Kilimanjaro International Airport as a safety precaution.
“We confirm that earlier this morning, two of our flights were diverted due to fog affecting visibility on approach to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) runway. KQ flights 739 from Lilongwe and 709 from Harare were temporarily diverted to Kilimanjaro International Airport as a safety precaution,” Kenya Airways said.
Following an improvement in weather conditions and visibility in Nairobi, both flights later returned safely and landed at JKIA.
The diversions caused minor delays affecting regional routes, with the airline noting that it is working to minimise disruptions and assist affected passengers through regular updates and alternative travel arrangements where necessary.
