KCB, Mastercard Launch Shariah-Compliant Sahl Card for Islamic Banking Customers

KCB Bank Kenya has partnered with Mastercard to launch the Sahl Card, a Shariah-compliant payment solution designed for customers using KCB’s Sahl Banking services.

The new card aims to give customers a secure and convenient way to make everyday payments while following Islamic finance principles.

It also offers a range of travel, shopping, dining, and lifestyle benefits through Mastercard’s global network.

The launch marks another step in KCB’s efforts to provide inclusive financial products that meet the needs of different customer groups across Kenya.

Card Designed Around Islamic Finance Principles

KCB said the Sahl Card allows customers to manage their spending without compromising their religious and financial values.

Customers will be able to use the card for everyday purchases while enjoying secure digital payment services that comply with Shariah principles.

The card is available in both Mastercard World Elite and Gold Credit Card categories, giving eligible customers access to premium lifestyle experiences.

KCB Introduces Sahl Agency Banking Network

Alongside the new payment card, KCB also launched the Sahl Agency Banking Network.

The network will enable customers to deposit money, withdraw cash, make payments, and access other banking services through trusted banking agents located within their communities.

According to the bank, the service expands access to Islamic banking while ensuring customers continue to bank in line with Shariah principles.

Speaking during the launch, Mark Mwongela, KCB Group Director for Strategy and Innovation, said the bank remains committed to creating products that meet the changing needs of its customers.

“At KCB, we remain committed to developing financial solutions that reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our customers. The Sahl card represents an important step in expanding access to Shariah-compliant banking solutions by providing customers with a secure, convenient, and values-driven payment option that supports their everyday financial and lifestyle needs,” he said.

Mastercard Highlights Inclusive Digital Payments

Eligible cardholders will gain access to The Mastercard Collection, which offers exclusive travel, dining, shopping, and lifestyle experiences for World Elite Mastercard customers.

Other features of the Sahl Card include transaction alerts, spend management controls, concierge services, and an Islamic-themed card design that reflects the preferences of its target customers.

KCB said the new offering combines secure digital payments with value-added services to enhance customers’ everyday banking experience while remaining faithful to Islamic finance principles.
