Kenya Airways Director Christopher Buckley Resigns As Shareholders Approve Board Changes

Kenya Airways has announced the resignation of Christopher Buckley as a director of the company following resolutions passed at its 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held virtually on  June 12, 2026.

In a notice dated June, 15 , Kenya Airways  said Company’s Secretary Habil Waswani said Teresia Mbaika, Principal Secretary, State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development, was re-elected as a director of the company.

“That Mr Christopher Buckley hereby resigns as a Director of the Company. That Ms Teresia Mbaika (Principal Secretary, State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development) be and is hereby re-elected as a Director of the Company,” reads the notice.

During the meeting, shareholders approved the audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, including the balance sheet and reports from both directors and auditors.

The AGM also approved the remuneration of directors for the same financial period.

Shareholders further elected Esther Koimett, Kiprono Kittony, Chris Diaz, Prof. Winnie Nyamute, and David Ndii as directors of the company.

According to Kenya Airways, the meeting also approved the election of members to the Audit and Risk Committee.

The committee includes Festus King’ori, Raphael Otieno, who is a representative of the Cabinet Secretary to the National Treasury, Teresia Mbaika, Dr David Ndii, Esther Koimett, and Prof. Winnie Nyamute.

“That Mr. Festus King’ori, Mr. Raphael Otieno (Representative of the Cabinet Secretary to the National Treasury), Ms. Teresia Mbaika (Principal Secretary, State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development), Dr. David Ndii, Ms. Esther Koimett and Prof. Winnie Nyamute be and are hereby elected as members of the Audit and Risk Committee subject to election of the Board members as detailed above,” Kenya Airways stated.

External Auditor Appointed

Kenya Airways also confirmed the appointment of M/s PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as the company’s external auditors until the next AGM.

“That M/s. PricewaterhouseCoopers be appointed auditors of the Company to hold office until the conclusion of the next Annual General meeting and that their remuneration be fixed by the Directors,” read part of the notice.

The Airline noted that full poll results from the AGM will be published on its official investor relations website.

In addition, Kenya Airways stated that the announcement is issued in compliance with Capital Markets Authority regulations and should not be interpreted as an admission of liability or wrongdoing.

About Christopher Buckley

Christopher has over four decades of wide-ranging experience in the commercial aviation business.

His career includes roles in an airline in Martinique, French West Indies, as well as commercial and management positions at de Havilland Canada in Toronto.

He also held senior management roles at Airbus in Toulouse, where he retired in 2020 as Executive Vice President.

Before joining the Kenya Airways board, Buckley served on several company boards, including connectivity specialist OnAir, Nordic Aviation Capital, EFW, and Emerald Airlines, where he is also a founding shareholder.

In 2018, Buckley was honoured to be awarded the ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre National de Mérite’ by the French government, for services to France.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and French from Aston University in Birmingham, England.
