Kenya Launches Biometric Health Tracking System for Minors

The Ministry of Health has announced plans to introduce biometric enrollment for minors as part of efforts to strengthen Kenya’s digital healthcare system.
In a statement dated Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the new system will create a secure digital link between each child and their health records.
Under the plan, each child will be registered in a biometric system designed to eliminate duplicate registrations and cases of misidentification.
“BIOMETRIC ENROLLMENT FOR MINORS . We are establishing a secure link for each child to their health record, eliminating duplicate registrations and misidentification,” read part of the statement.

The Ministry said the system will ensure that a child’s medical history, immunization records, and treatment details can be accessed at any Social Health Authority (SHA) facility across the country.

According to the Ministry, the integration of biometric data will allow medical workers to make faster and more informed clinical decisions.
“A child’s medical history, immunization logs, and treatment records will be accessible at any SHA facility nationwide, allowing medical workers to make faster, informed clinical decisions,”
The system is also expected to reduce patient waiting times by simplifying registration processes and minimizing paperwork in health facilities.
“This digital system simplifies patient registration, reducing wait times and allowing clinical staff to focus more on patient care instead of paperwork,” Ministry of Health stated.
The Ministry further noted that biometric verification will improve institutional security by reducing misuse of health benefits and ensuring that resources are directed to legitimate beneficiaries.
Duale Says New Biometric Will Enhance Security and Accountability
Officials said the move is part of broader reforms aimed at improving efficiency and accountability within the healthcare system.
Additionally , the health ministry stated that integrating children into the digital platform will strengthen Kenya’s position as a leader in health technology innovation across Africa.

Duale said the biometric verification will enhance security within the health system by ensuring that only legitimate beneficiaries access services.
He stated that Kenya is positioning itself as a regional leader in digital health innovation through the rollout of the system.
The CS further stated that the initiative reflects its commitment to modernizing healthcare delivery through digital systems that improve both service delivery and patient experience.
