Kenya Met Issues New Weather Warning as Rains Return to Several Counties

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has predicted light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the country between Sunday, October 4 and Thursday, October 8, 2026.
According to the five-day weather forecast issued on October 2, rainfall is expected in parts of the Coast, Central, Eastern, Western and Rift Valley regions, with some areas also recording sunny intervals during this period.
In Nairobi, Sunday is expected to have sunny intervals in the morning followed by light showers in the afternoon and at night, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 27°C.
On Monday, Nairobi will experience light rains in the morning, sunny intervals in the afternoon and light showers at night, with temperatures ranging between 16°C and 29°C.
Nairobi County
Tuesday is forecast to have light rains in the morning, light showers in the afternoon and at night, with a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum of 14°C.
Wednesday will have light rains in the morning, sunny intervals in the afternoon and light showers at night, while Thursday will have light rains in the morning, light showers in the afternoon and at night.

Along the Coast, Mombasa is expected to experience moderate showers on Sunday morning and at night, alongside light afternoon showers.
The county will record temperatures of between 24°C and 30°C. Monday will have light showers in the morning and at night, with sunny intervals in the afternoon.
Kwale will also receive moderate showers on Sunday morning and at night, while Kilifi is expected to experience moderate morning showers followed by light showers later in the day.
Coastal Counties
On the other hand, Lamu will mainly experience light showers and sunny intervals throughout the five days.
Tana River and Taita/Taveta are expected to experience sunny intervals in the mornings, followed by light afternoon showers and partly cloudy nights.
Garissa will similarly have sunny intervals and light afternoon showers, with temperatures reaching highs of up to 34°C.
In the northeastern region, Wajir will record temperatures of up to 36°C, with light rains expected in the mornings and sunny intervals in the afternoons.
Mandera will be hotter, with temperatures reaching 38°C on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Turkana County
Turkana will also experience high temperatures of up to 38°C throughout the forecast period, with mainly sunny conditions.
Marsabit will be cooler, with maximum temperatures ranging between 24°C and 27°C and light rains expected during several mornings and nights.
Several Central Kenya counties are expected to receive rainfall. Meru will experience light rains and showers throughout the period, while Tharaka-Nithi and Embu will record light rains and moderate showers, particularly at night.
Kitui and Machakos are forecast to receive light rains in the mornings and showers in the afternoons and at night.
Makueni will have more sunny intervals, although light afternoon showers are expected from Monday through Thursday.
Lowest Temperatures
Nyandarua will record some of the lowest temperatures, with minimum temperatures dropping to 5°C on several days.
The county will experience sunny intervals and occasional light showers.
Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Kiambu are also expected to experience varying levels of rainfall, with moderate showers forecast in some areas during the afternoons and nights.
In the Rift Valley, West Pokot, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Kericho and Bomet are expected to experience sunny intervals alongside afternoon showers.
Some of the showers in these counties are forecast to be accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Laikipia and Nakuru will mainly experience sunny intervals in the mornings, with light to moderate afternoon showers on some days.
Narok and Kajiado will also have sunny intervals, with occasional light afternoon showers.
Western
Western Kenya is expected to experience generally sunny mornings followed by afternoon showers in several counties.
Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira are among the counties forecast to receive showers accompanied by thunder and lightning on different days.

Kisumu will record temperatures of up to 33°C, while Migori could reach 33°C on Sunday.
Kisii and Nyamira are expected to receive moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning on Monday and Tuesday.
