Share

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a red alert warning of heavy rainfall expected across multiple regions in the coming days. The agency released the advisory on May 7, 2026, signaling intensified weather conditions likely to affect more than 30 counties.

According to the forecast, rain will intensify from the evening of May 7 and continue through May 14.

“The rainfall being experienced over several parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, and Central Highlands, including parts of the Southeastern Lowlands, is expected to intensify to more than 20mm in 24 hours, from 8th to 14th May 2026,” the department said.

Meanwhile, the department said the situation will worsen as the system strengthens over the weekend. As a result, the risk of disruptions will increase across affected regions.

The forecast further showed that rainfall will peak between May 10 and May 13. After that, the intensity will gradually reduce. However, showers will persist in several areas beyond the peak period.

Counties on High Alert

“The intensity is expected to peak between 10th and 13th May 2026 and spread to parts of the Northwestern sector,” the department stated.

At the same time, the system will expand into new areas. This means more counties may begin to experience heavy rainfall as conditions evolve.
