Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania Move to Ease AFCON 2027 Fan Travel

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are working to implement a joint visa framework to make it easier for fans and other tournament stakeholders to travel across the three countries during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to a press release dated August 25, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, joined his counterparts from Uganda and Tanzania in reviewing preparations for the continental tournament.

The proposed PAMOJA Visa Framework was among the key issues discussed during a high-level meeting between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and representatives of the three host nations.

“Among the key agenda items was the PAMOJA Visa Framework and cross-border mobility, where CS Mvurya joined his counterparts in assuring CAF of the three Governments’ commitment to advancing and operationalizing the proposed framework,” read part of the notice.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania Plan Easier Travel for Fans During the AFCON 2027

The Ministry of Youth Affairs stated that the three governments assured CAF of their commitment to advancing and operationalising the proposed PAMOJA Visa Framework.

Each host nation has assessed the requirements within its jurisdiction and committed to taking the necessary measures towards implementing the framework.

CS Salim noted that the initiative is intended to facilitate smoother cross-border movement during AFCON 2027, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Therefore, the framework is expected to facilitate the movement of fans, participating teams, officials, accredited media, sponsors, suppliers and other tournament stakeholders across the three host countries.

It will also provide for immigration and customs facilitation, including the movement of tournament-related goods and equipment.

For Kenya, the initiative is expected to support easier entry and movement for African visitors while strengthening regional mobility ahead of the tournament.

CAF Reviews Kenya’s Infrastructure Progress

Furthermore, the three host nations reviewed infrastructure preparations as part of the meeting.

The Ministry said Kenya continues to make progress in the development and upgrading of its stadiums, training grounds and supporting infrastructure.

CS Salim welcomed the positive assessment of the progress made so far and the recommendations arising from CAF’s ongoing assessment and inspection process.

He noted that the government has committed to implementing CAF’s recommendations within the designated timelines to ensure that facilities meet the required standards ahead of the tournament.

Additionally, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a successful and memorable PAMOJA AFCON 2027.

The three countries also highlighted coordinated decision-making, a unified tournament identity and joint efforts to address challenges that may emerge during preparations.

They added that hosting AFCON 2027 provides East Africa with an opportunity to attract more tourists and investment while strengthening regional integration.

Meanwhile, the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027, with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania jointly hosting the continental tournament under the PAMOJA 2027 bid.

The tournament will feature 24 national teams.
