Kenya Welcomes US-Iran Peace Agreement, Backs Support for Dialogue and Stability

The government of Kenya has welcomed the newly announced peace agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a major step toward ending conflict and promoting stability in the Middle East and beyond.

In a statement released on Monday, June 15, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi said Kenya supports the agreement and remains committed to peaceful dialogue and multilateral cooperation.

Kenya said the agreement provides for the permanent end of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, and praised the diplomatic efforts that led to the breakthrough.

The government also noted that an official signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19.

“Kenya has long stood as a steadfast advocate for peace, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes through multilateral institutions and the community of nations,” Mudavadi said.

Govt of Kenya Support Dialogue and International Cooperation

Govt emphasized that lasting solutions to global challenges can only be achieved through diplomacy, respect for international law, and cooperation among nations.

The government maintained its support for the principles of the United Nations Charter and called on all parties involved to honor the commitments made under the agreement.

“We urge all stakeholders to uphold the commitments made, work towards lasting trust-building measures and ensure that the gains of this agreement translate into tangible peace for the region and the world,” the statement added.

Hope for Stability in the Middle East

According to Kenya, the agreement offers hope for de-escalation in the Middle East and could help reopen key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The government said greater stability in the region would strengthen global energy security, improve international trade, and benefit millions of people affected by conflict.

Kenya also congratulated all parties involved for choosing negotiation instead of further confrontation.

“This development offers hope for de-escalation, the reopening of vital maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, and the broader stabilization of the Middle East region,” the statement read.

Economic Relief for Kenya and Africa

Kenya noted that many African countries have experienced economic pressure because of disruptions in global energy markets, supply chains, and rising commodity prices linked to conflict.

The government said the peace agreement could ease these burdens and support economic recovery across the continent.

“The de-escalation offers a timely opportunity to ease these burdens and support recovery,” the statement said.

Kenyan Govt Ready to Support Peace Efforts

Kenya reaffirmed its readiness to support wider efforts aimed at promoting stability, economic cooperation, and mutual understanding among nations.

The government stressed that peace involves more than ending conflict and requires fairness, dialogue, and shared opportunities.

“Peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of fairness, dialogue and shared opportunities,” Mudavadi said.
