Kenyatta University Confirms Prof. John Okumu as New Vice-Chancellor

Kenyatta University has appointed Prof. John Okumu as the substantive Vice-Chancellor with immediate effect.

The announcement came through a notice from the Office of the Chairman of Council dated 27th July, 2026. The letter, signed by Prof. Clara S. Momanyi, informed all members of staff and students about the appointment.

According to the University Council, the appointment follows the provisions of the Universities Act, Section 35(1)(a)(v). The Council also confirmed that the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, approved the appointment.

The Council revealed that the appointment followed a competitive recruitment process conducted by the Public Service Commission. Prof. John Okumu emerged as the top-ranked candidate during the selection process.
