KURA Announces Closure of Major Nairobi Road for Four Months

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the partial closure of Convent Drive in Lavington, Nairobi, for four months to facilitate the installation of a vehicular bridge as part of the ongoing rehabilitation, restoration, and beautification of the Nairobi River Basin.
The closure will take effect on Monday, August 17, 2026, and run until Wednesday, December 16, 2026, affecting motorists and pedestrians who use the affected section.
“The public is hereby notified that a section of Convent Drive, Lavington, will be partially closed from Monday, 17th August 2026 to Wednesday, 16th December 2026, both days inclusive. The partial closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of a vehicular bridge as part of the ongoing Rehabilitation, Restoration and Beautification of the Nairobi River Basin,” KURA said.

KURA said the closure of Convent Drive will allow the installation of the vehicular bridge as the authority advances the rehabilitation, restoration and beautification of the Nairobi River Basin.

As a result, the authority has urged motorists and pedestrians to remain alert when approaching the affected section and follow directions from traffic marshals and police officers.
“Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to follow directions provided by traffic marshals and police officers on site,” KURA said.
Appeal for Patience During Construction
The authority expects the construction works to disrupt normal movement along the road. However, KURA said road users’ cooperation will help facilitate the works and maintain safety around the affected section.

KURA has therefore asked motorists and pedestrians to exercise patience and comply with instructions issued at the construction site throughout the closure period.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue to Transform Urban Mobility,” KURA added.
The partial closure will remain in effect until December 16, 2026, with KURA urging all road users to exercise caution and cooperate with traffic management personnel during the works.
