A multi-agency security team destroyed approximately 7,000 litres of illicit brew and arrested one suspect during an intelligence-led operation in Kwanza Sub-County, the National Police Service said.

The operation, led by the Sub-County Police Commander of Kwanza, targeted brew dens at Forkland and its environs on Sept 4, 2026.

Officers recovered and destroyed 630 litres of kangara and seized 40 litres of chang’aa from a suspect at the scene.

“During the operation, one suspect was arrested after being found in possession of 40 litres of chang’aa,” NPS said. “Several other illicit brew dens were raided during the operation, leading to the recovery and destruction of approximately 7,000 litres of illicit brew.”

Seized Illicit Brew Materials and Stolen Goods

Images released by NPS showed dozens of metal and plastic drums, containers, and brewing equipment seized during the raid.

The drums and storage containers are suspected of having been used in illegal brewing activities, according to police.

Other recovered items suspected to be stolen included loudspeakers, amplifiers, a generator, an HP laptop, a mixer, water pumps, submersible pumps, a gas cylinder, and an amplifier stand.

Police said the items will form part of ongoing investigations into related criminal activity in the area.

The suspect was placed in custody pending arraignment in court.

“Investigations are ongoing, aimed at apprehending and arraigning all suspects to face justice,” NPS said.

Charges are expected to include possession and manufacture of illicit alcohol under Kenya’s Alcoholic Drinks Control Act.
