Meet Rose Mbithe Mulwa, Politician Linked to Doctor Victoria Mutiso’s Murder Case

Rose Mbithe Mulwa recently came into the public spotlight after she was arraigned in court together with her son Chris Mulwa over the fatal shooting of Doctor Victoria Mutiso, who was shot in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. 

Beyond the ongoing court proceedings, she is a politician, entrepreneur and community leader with interests spanning healthcare, business and public service.

Rose Mbithe Mulwa was raised in Iveti, Machakos County.

Rose Mbithe Mulwa Career  Background

She began her professional career in healthcare at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, where she worked in maternal and child healthcare.

Rose Mbithe Mulwa later transitioned into entrepreneurship, building business interests in agribusiness, trade and real estate while remaining involved in community empowerment initiatives focused on mentorship, skills development and economic empowerment.

Therefore, her contributions to leadership have earned her recognition, including being named among the Independent Kenya Women Awards’ Top 100 Most Impactful Women in Leadership.

Rose Mbithe Mulwa is also the founder and Executive Director of the Live and Shine Organisation, a non-governmental organisation involved in community development initiatives. 

In addition, she serves as the head pastor at her church.

Political Background

Additionally, Rose Mbither Mulwa is the founder and leader of the Empowerment and Liberation Party (ELP), where she has championed inclusive governance, greater public participation and increased leadership opportunities for women, youth and other marginalised groups.

In 2022, she contested the Machakos gubernatorial seat where she said her decision to vie for governor was informed by the socio-economic challenges she encountered while engaging residents across Machakos County.

Rose further pointed to youth unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, inadequate public services and the hardships faced by women and children as key issues that motivated her to seek elective office.

However, the ELP leader lost to Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who won the gubernatorial race in 2022.

Following her defeat, Rose Mbithe Mulwa later announced plans to contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election, saying her interest was driven by a desire to address the country’s economic challenges rather than becoming Kenya’s first female president. 

She argued that many Kenyans were more concerned with finding solutions to the rising cost of living than political rhetoric, adding that her campaign would focus on restoring hope and improving livelihoods through practical economic interventions.

Family Background

Rose Mbithe Mulwa was previously married to Prof. David Musyimi Ndetei before the couple divorced in 2001 after having four children together, including Chris Mulwa.

Court records also show that following the divorce, the former couple was involved in legal proceedings relating to the division of matrimonial property.
