If you thought a normal day at Diani Beach involved swimming, sunbathing and trying not to spend all your money on overpriced coconuts, a recent scene had a rather different script.

A group of people was spotted along the shoreline dressed in unusual red, black and white attire, with some wearing white pieces around their necks while another appeared to have one wrapped around their head. Stranger still, they were carrying chickens.

Naturally, anyone watching from a distance was left with more questions than answers.

Were they shooting a movie? Filming content? Attending a ceremony? Or had chickens finally decided it was time for a beach holiday?

Nobody seemed to have the answer, but social media users were more than willing to provide their own.

From Movie Set to Mystery Ritual

Naturally, the unusual sight sent social media users into detective mode, with some trying to find a perfectly ordinary explanation while others were already preparing for something much darker.

Jenan Namachanja appeared to take a more humorous route, writing, “Smartphones can disturb…I’ve just received a notification that my bible app needs an update… For what now??? Has Adam eaten another apple?”

Others took a more dramatic route, connecting the unusual clothing and chickens to rituals, sacrifices, and offerings to marine powers.

One commenter simply declared, performing rituals, while another joked that whoever filmed the scene was already in spirit form.

A different commenter offered a less mysterious possibility, saying they were making a movie episode with another asking why anyone who spotted the group had not simply gone over to find out what they were doing.

Then came a more practical theory: perhaps they were just protecting their chickens from Diani beach boys.

Someone else decided the birds deserved a day out too, joking that the group had taken them for a swim.

Kenyans Had Already Written Their Own Script

A few commenters were convinced there was nothing mysterious happening at all.

One called it normal in Kwale County, while another described it simply as people doing what brought them to Diani. A different commenter said it was probably content creation or a coastal movie and advised everyone not to worry.

Others preferred to leave it alone, with one commenter saying everyone has their own life and world.

Still, the combination of unusual clothing, chickens and seawater was enough to send imaginations running.

One person joked that the group was turning the sea into soup while someone else suggested th e birds were simply being saved from drowning.

Whether it was a film, a cultural practice, content creation or simply a group having a very unusual day at the beach remains unclear.
