Alego Usonga, Member of Parliament (MP), Sam Atandi, has requested President William Ruto to appoint him as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration on June 25, 2026, only.

In a statement on Monday, June 22, Atandi said CS Kipchumba Murkomen should give him space on that particular day so that he can deal with Siaya Governor James Orengo and United Opposition leaders who are planning to lead the Gen Z anniversary demonstrations slated for June 25.

Atandi said he would like police officers to take instructions from him during the period, arguing that his experience in handling demonstrations would enable him to manage any planned protests effectively.

“I request the President to hand over security operations to me on the 25th June! The police to take orders from me.With my many years experience in demos, i would like to deal with the mzee from Siaya with finality,to clear his head of mandamaano mentality. Teargas, please!” Atandi said.

Orengo Asks Kenyans to Come Out in Large Numbers

Orengo has urged Kenyans to come out in large numbers on June 25th in remembrance of the people who died in 2024 and 2025.

In a statement, Orengo said the victims of the last two protests, like Rex Maasai, lost their lives while fighting for economic justice.

“We will not watch as the blood of our children is treated as a footnote. June 25th remains a public holiday of remembrance and resistance. More than 50 brave young Kenyans, our unsung heroes like Rex Maasai from Siaya, Herbert Ojwang’, and Erickson, who was gunned down outside Parliament, lost their lives fighting for economic justice. We must come out in large numbers to commemorate them,” Orengo said.

Orengo emphasized that President Ruto should not sign the Finance Bill into law, saying that the executive must listen to the sovereign voice of the people.

He also praised MPs from the Linda Mwananchi Movement who voted against the bill, as well as legislators who boycotted Parliament in protest.

“Our position remains firm: President Ruto must not sign the punitive Finance Bill into law. I salute the brave Linda Mwananchi Movement MPs who boldly voted NO, and the many legislators who intentionally boycotted parliament in protest. The executive must listen to the sovereign voice of the people,” he added.
