Parent Breaks Down While Narrating How Utumishi Girls Students Tried to Save Themselves During Fire

An emotional parent has recounted the terrifying moments during a fire outbreak at Utumishi Girls Academy, revealing how students desperately tried to save themselves as the inferno spread through the dormitory at Utumishi Girls.

The parent said she received a distress call at around 4:00AM from her aunt, informing her that a fire had broken out at Utumishi Girls.

She rushed to the scene and found anxious parents amid confusion, as reports of injuries, hospitalizations and possible deaths had emerged.

Upon arrival at Utumishi Girls, school officials directed parents to line up inside the compound.

Meanwhile, tension gripped the crowd as unconfirmed reports suggested that several students had died while others had gone to hospital.

The parent later located her aunt’s child, who explained that the fire started at around midnight in a ground-floor dormitory at Utumishi Girls.

As the flames spread, students on the upper floor jumped to escape, leaving many with serious injuries.

Injuries Reported After Utumishi Girls Academy Inferno

Some students at Utumishi Girls Academy suffered burns, while others sustained fractures during the chaotic escape.

The parent confirmed that her aunt’s child survived but sustained a broken leg after the Utumishi Girls fire.

She questioned the safety measures at Utumishi Girls, noting that the government had earlier directed dormitories to include large windows and multiple exit doors to improve emergency response.

However, she pointed out that only one door opened during the fire at Utumishi Girls while another remained locked, a situation that may have worsened the outcome.

“The matron at Utumishi Girls Academy only opened one door instead of two when fire broke out. Instead of alerting the children to get out, she walked away,” she said.

She then questioned the response at Utumishi Girls, saying more students could have escaped if both doors had opened in time.

“If both doors had been opened, we would have avoided so many casualties,” she added.

Calls for Accountability

Beyond the immediate response at Utumishi Girls Academy, she urged the government to act firmly if investigations reveal negligence or human involvement.

“I would ask the government to also take strict action if there was any negligence of the law, or if there is anything that contributed to this matter and it is human-made, I ask the government to take legal action,” she said.

At the same time, she noted that the management of Utumishi Girls had not issued a statement. She added that officials had directed parents to the Utumishi Girls’ office, where they expect a formal communication.

Emergency Response Questioned

In addition, the parent raised concerns about the emergency response at Utumishi Girls, arguing that the number of Red Cross personnel at the scene remained too low.

“The number of Red Cross personnel is very low; the Red Cross should increase their numbers,” she said.

Even so, she urged parents at Utumishi Girls to remain calm during the difficult moment, despite the uncertainty surrounding casualties and those receiving treatment.

Finally, she sent condolences to families affected by the Utumishi Girls tragedy and called for prayers for those still in the hospital, while urging the government to ensure accountability as investigations into the Utumishi Girls fire continue.
