Police Launch Manhunt After Two Suspected Robbers Escape Uasin Gishu Shootout

Police have launched a manhunt for two suspected robbers. The robbers escaped after a fierce shootout with officers in Uasin Gishu County today, the 6th of July 2026, according to the National Police Service (NPS).

Thus, In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the NPS said the suspects fled after exchanging gunfire with police during an intelligence-led operation.

Consequently, four suspects were apprehended at the scene, while two others managed to escape and remain at large.

” The officers responded decisively to the imminent threat, engaging the armed suspects in a shootout. As a result, four suspects were fatally wounded, while two others fled the scene. The escapees are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange, and a coordinated manhunt has since been launched to apprehend them.”

Additionally, Police have not disclosed the identities of the suspects or the exact circumstances that led to the confrontation.

However, investigators believe the imposters were linked to a series of criminal activities in the entire North Rift area.

“The suspects were ordered to stop and identify themselves; however, they defied the lawful orders and opened fire on the officers. The individuals are suspected to be behind a series of robberies across the entire North Rift area, specifically in Kitale, Kapenguria, Nandi, Marakwet and Eldoret in Uasin Gishu County.”

Similarly, security officers recovered exhibits believed to be connected to the suspects, which have been taken in as evidence to aid ongoing investigations.

Police Action Plan

Authorities are also pursuing leads to establish the suspects’ movements and possible accomplices.

“A search of the scene led to the recovery of several items believed to have been used in the commission of crimes, including a loaded pistol; breaking tools comprising a wedge mallet and wedge chisel; five mobile phones; manila ropes; four identification cards; and cash.”

For this reason, the National Police Service has appealed to members of the public to volunteer any information that could lead to the arrest of the two fugitives.

Citizens have been urged not to confront the suspects but instead report any relevant information through the emergency toll- free numbers 999 and 911.
