Akothee, born Esther Akoth, is a Kenyan musician, entrepreneur and philanthropist widely known as “Madam Boss.”

She has built a powerful brand in music, business, and social influence and she continues to rank among East Africa’s most visible entertainers.

Akothee was born on April 8, 1983, in Kisumu County, and she grew up in Migori County.

Her father worked as an administrator, while her mother engaged in politics, a background that exposed her early to public life and responsibility.

She joined Nyabisawa Girls High School, but she left school early following an early marriage.

At 14, she eloped and became a teen mother, which pushed her into adult responsibilities at a young age.

Despite those setbacks, she later returned to education. In 2004, she sat for her KCSE examinations at Wasio Mixed Secondary School.

Later, in 2023, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management (Human Resource Management) at Mount Kenya University, marking a major academic milestone.

Music Career of Akothee

Akothee launched her music career in 2008 after performing in local venues where she gradually built her audience.

She then broke into the national and regional scene through a bold, energetic, and expressive performance style.

Her sound blends Afrobeat, Benga, Rumba and contemporary pop. She often uses her music to express themes of resilience, empowerment, and love, which connect strongly with her audience.

Over time, she expanded her reach through collaborations with major African artists such as Diamond Platnumz, Flavour, and MC Galaxy.

As her popularity grew, she became known for her dynamic stage presence and bold choreography across East Africa and Europe.

Business Empire, Philanthropy and Advocacy

Beyond music, Akothee expanded into entrepreneurship and built multiple income streams. She founded:

  • Akothee Safaris
  • Aknotela (luxury fashion, marketing, and branding company)
  • Akothee Homes (real estate investments)

She then invested in properties across Rongo and Mombasa in Kenya, as well as Zürich in Switzerland, strengthening her international business footprint.

Akothee established the Akothee Foundation to support education, healthcare and poverty alleviation initiatives.

She consistently uses her platform to champion women’s empowerment.

In particular, she encourages single mothers to pursue financial independence and self-reliance through business and education.

Personal Life

Akothee remains a mother of five children, and she often highlights motherhood as a defining part of her identity.

Her daughters: Vesha, Rue Baby (Celine Dion Okello) and Fancy Makadia come from her first marriage to Jared Okello.

Meanwhile, her two sons, Prince Ojwang and Oyoo Onyango, come from separate international relationships involving a French diplomat and a Swiss national, respectively.

She continues to speak openly about balancing motherhood with a demanding career in music and business, and she often frames her personal journey as one of growth and resilience.

In a reflective social media post, she celebrated motherhood and expressed pride in her daughter’s achievements. She wrote:

“Don’t hang too much on my past, that’s the foundation of my present. My last born daughter Fancy_Makadia, is 24 years old, finishing her master’s this year, working and stable in Paris, France, dating an engineer,” she wrote.

“Her husband recently bought her a car, sending me money to support my Foundation,” she added.
