Raila Odinga Junior Breaks Silence Over Viral Video of Him Greeting Kenyans Through a Fence 

Raila Odinga Junior has addressed a video circulating online showing him greeting members of the public through a fence in Kilgoris.

The incident happened on Saturday, August 8, 2026, during President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto’s engagement Koito ceremony in Kilgoris.

The video sparked discussion online, with some users questioning why Odinga Junior appeared to be greeting people from behind a fence.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, Odinga Junior clarified that the incident did not take place at President Ruto’s private residence.

He said the encounter happened at the public airstrip in Kilgoris as he arrived in the area.

“For clarity: this was not at the President’s private home. It took place at the public airstrip in Kilgoris,” he said.

Raila Odinga Junior Explains the Fence Incident 

Odinga Junior said he was leaving an aircraft when a group of members of the public recognised him and called him over.

“As I alighted from the aircraft, a group of wananchi who recognised me waved me over and asked to greet me,” he stated.

He explained that the fence seen in the video was a safety barrier at the airstrip and was meant to protect the aircraft landing area.

“The fence is a standard safety barrier that protects the landing area for aircraft,” he said.

Odinga Junior added that he simply responded to the greetings from the members of the public.

“I responded to their greeting in the normal way one does with members of the public,” he said.

Junior Thanks Kenyans for Following His Journey

Odinga Junior also took the opportunity to acknowledge the attention his activities have received online.

He said he was pleased by the interest with which Kenyans continue to follow his movements and promised to communicate with them more often.

“On a lighter note, I am pleased by the rigor and keen interest with which netizens follow my journey. I shall endeavour to update you more frequently,” he said.
