Gachagua Reveals Whereabouts of Police Officers Linked to Dr Victoria Mutiso Murder

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that two police officers mentioned in the death of former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health Victoria Nthunya Mutiso were arrested and later released before being relocated to Uganda.

Speaking during a press gathering , Gachagua said he had been informed that the officers were released on orders and that Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) facilitated their relocation.

“I have been told that the two police officers who were mentioned in the death of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso were arrested, released on orders and CS Murkomen and DCI has facilitated their relocation to Uganda,” Gachagua said.

The claim comes amid ongoing investigations into the killing of Dr Mutiso, who was fatally shot in Nairobi on July 29, 2026.

Earlier, the High Court allowed the detention of three suspects for 30 days over their alleged involvement in Dr Mutiso’s killing.

The suspects identified as police officer Elijah Kibelion Kimoi, Daniel Njoroge and Kevin Kinuthia, were arraigned on Monday after the DCI told the court that they had played specific roles in the killing.

In his ruling, Magistrate Paul Mutai said the safety of the suspects could not be guaranteed if they were released at that stage.

“I note that one of the suspects is a serving police officer and if the respondents are released on bond there’s a likelihood that they will interfere with investigations,” the magistrate ruled.
